Y & M V

The "Y&MV" line extends from Y&MV junction just south of McLemore Avenue to West Junction at the west end of Johnston Yard. This track was originally constructed in 1882 as part of Collis P. Huntington's Louisville, New Orleans and Texas Railroad to link  Huntington's Cheasepeake and Ohio Railroad at Louisville, KY, with his Southern Pacific Railroad at New Orleans, LA, to create a transcontinental system.  The line was originally chartered as the Tennesse Southern Railroad Company in 1881 but was purchased by Huntington before construction began. This track is used by Amtrak's "City of New Orleans".
